Seals
There are numerous species of seals found in the world. The Weddle Seal is certainly one of the most playful. The Crab Seal is the most common and the Elephant Seal is the biggest.
The Weddle Seal is well known for its big, long whiskers and wide brown smile. The Weddle Seal is also surprising as it chooses to live on the Antarctica landmass all year round. Most other seals only live in Antarctica for half of the year. Weddle Seal is also the most well-known of other seals and features in many zoos. The Crab Eater Seal is the most common of all seals. The name is misleading as there is no evidence of crab in this seal's diet. The Crab Eater Seal mainly eat Krill. They have a filter for a mouth that strains water from the Krill so they can be eaten. Some estimates of the numbers put the total of Crab Eater Seals around 15,000,000. It may come as a surprise but Crab Eater Seals are rarely seen on the permanent Antarctic landmass, preferring to spend their time on the pack ice where there food is located. The Elephant Seal is named for its size being the largest species of seal ever found. The male Elephant seal is much larger than the female Elephant seal. This is called sexual dimorphism and is seen in many mammals including homo sapiens. The female Elephant seal is only a quarter of the size of a male elephant seal. A fully grown male Elephant Seal can be up to 7 metres long and weigh 4 tonnes. The males can inflate their nose during mating season. Elephant Seals mainly eat fish and squid. The Leopard Seal is one of the most dangerous species of seals, at least to other sea creatures. Leopard Seals are well known for eating penguins and other seals. A large male Leopard Seal can weigh up to 350 kilograms. They can be dangerous even to humans. During times when their food becomes scarce they have been know to attack humans. If hungry enough a Leopard Seal will eat humans. Their long, razor sharp teeth and quick speed in the water make them very effective predators. |

Elder Antarctic seals should not to be confused with this Elder Seal used to prevent extradimensional beings crossing over into our universe.
